Family Court Guidance on Custody and COVID-19
North Carolina’s Family Court Advisory Commission released a helpful resource providing general guidance to parents with existing child custody and/or visitation orders in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The commission notes that “the goal of these recommendations is to encourage the parties to follow their parenting plan and/or custody order as closely as possible to ensure a level of consistency and stability that is in the best interest of the child(ren).”
The North Carolina Custody Mediation Program also remains available as a helpful tool for parents navigating issues with their existing custody and visitation orders in the context of the pandemic.
While we find these guidelines helpful, they should not be taken as a substitute for our advice for your specific circumstances. Every case is different, and families’ routines and custody arrangements are being impacted in different ways. We are here to help you navigate the circumstances of your particular case and determine how your child’s best interest can be best protected during this time.
