July 4th Fun and Fundraising for Consider Haiti
This year, in lieu of the annual Patton Parker House July 4th Freedom Gala, Siemens Family Law Group, Chop Shop Butchery, Downtown Asheville Racing Club, the Charlotte Street Business Association and others teamed up to bring Asheville socially distanced barbecue with a cause.
With proceeds donated to the nonprofit Consider Haiti, Chop Shop Butchery created delectable Independence Day plates and family meals — consisting of Colfax Creek Farm Heritage Pulled Pork, slaw, sauce, baked beans, mac and cheese and Geraldine’s buns — and set up a drive-through pickup line in front of the historic Patton Parker House, the offices of Siemens Family Law Group.
The highly successful event raised $5,437 for Consider Haiti, which supports the health and welfare of more than 2,000 Haitian children each year. Jim Siemens has been involved with Consider Haiti since traveling to the country for a clinic in 2013 and currently serves as an active member of the nonprofit’s board.
In a normal year, the Patton Parker House is usually bustling with energy on July 4 — hosting upwards of 200 visitors for dinner and fireworks. Since the summer tradition began in 2016, the event has been a highly anticipated community event, bringing our friends and neighbors together for a fun and tasty celebration. While we’re sad we could not spend more time together this Fourth of July, considering the circumstances, we are thrilled with the turnout and support shown for our drive-up barbecue event.
Even during one of the busiest weekends of the season, Chop Shop Butchery’s whole team worked hard to create and assemble meals for this fundraiser, and we’re humbled by their generosity. We couldn’t be more thankful for our caring community of friends and associates.
